RESTORATION
“We want to pass this legacy to our children, to our grandchildren, and our great grand children.
They have as much right to this heritage as we have. We must not allow our efforts of perpetuating
our culture and traditions to fade away with the passing of time.
We must preserve our heritage for the sake of our descendants.”

– Chairman, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, Incorporated

Cheng Hoon Teng is the oldest and finest of traditional Chinese temples in Malaysia. Appreciating the need to preserve this unique historical monument – not only as part of Malaysia’s national heritage but also as a service and contribution to the community – its Standing Committee took up the challenge of restoring the temple to its original splendour.

Devotees and friends of the temple rallied round. Through donations, advice, and voluntary service, they initiated the first phase of restoration. A restoration committee was set up to implement three phases of restoration: Phase 1: Main Building, Phase 2: Auxiliary Buildings, and Phase 3: Opera Theatre.
